What You Will Pay with Insurance
Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan. Here is how the pieces work.
| Cost factor | What it means | At MMHC |
|---|---|---|
| Copay | A fixed amount you pay per session. | Many clients pay $0; 97% pay $30 or less. |
| Deductible | The amount you pay before insurance starts covering costs. | Varies by plan; we verify before your first session. |
| Coinsurance | A percentage you pay after meeting your deductible. | Varies by plan. |
For commercial insurance visitors specifically, Manhattan Mental Health Counseling's proprietary Q2 2026 data shows 8 in 10 Cigna, Aetna, and United clients pay $30 or less, and 1 in 4 pay nothing. Cigna averaged $19.73, Aetna averaged $20.25, and United averaged $24.81 in Q2 claims. We still verify your exact plan before your first session.
More than 3 in 4 clients pay $0 out of pocket, and 97% pay $30 or less per session. We confirm your exact cost before your first appointment.
Under the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, insurers must cover mental health care on par with physical health care, but coverage terms still depend on your plan, deductible, network rules, and medical-necessity requirements.
Because Manhattan Mental Health Counseling is telehealth-only, we confirm your plan's telehealth coverage before your first session.

Self-Pay and Out-of-Network
If your plan is not one we are in-network with, you may still have coverage. Many out-of-network plans, meaning care from a provider outside your insurer's preferred network, reimburse part of the session cost, and many people have out-of-network benefits without realizing it.
To check, ask your insurer: do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health, what is my reimbursement rate, and do I have a separate out-of-network deductible? MMHC provides superbills, the itemized receipts you submit for reimbursement; the amount your plan pays back depends on your out-of-network benefits.
Therapy is also typically eligible for pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Our self-pay rate is $175 per 53-minute session.
Submit the contact form or call 212-960-8626 to talk through the options.
