Does Healthfirst cover mental health?
All Healthfirst members, individuals and dependent family plan members, are eligible for psychotherapy services under their Healthfirst insurance plan. With most Healthfirst plan, there is a co-pay and/or deductible to pay. We can check your benefits for you. Please call our office at 212-960-8626 or fill out the contact form below.
Healthfirst plans have no limit on the number of therapy sessions you can have. You should be allowed to see a Healthfirsttherapist (one in-network with Healthfirst Healthcare) on a weekly basis as long as your Healthfirst coverage is active and there is a medically necessary reason for your visits.
Questions to ask to Ascertain My Healthfirst coverage for therapy?
To know more about the specifics of your plan, call the number on the back of your Healthfirst insurance card. You can also sign-in to the Healthfirst member portal and check your benefits there. Healthfirst members can call one of these numbers for information on Healthfirst mental health coverage:

To connect with a Healthfirst Care Manager call: 1-800-404-8778. Healthfirst's Care Management Program is designed for those at risk of developing a chronic health condition or currently living with a chronic health condition, including a mental health disorder or substance abuse.
The following questions are good ones to ask Healthfirst regarding mental health coverage:
- Healthfirst Mental Health Copay: What is my copay for mental health outpatient services, specifically in connection with codes 90834 and 90837? (those CPT codes are used by Healthfirst therapists).
- Is there a session cap per year? (session cap are unlikely with Healthfirst, but better to know for sure.)
- Is the deductible waived? (for most Healthfirst plans, the deductible is waived, but again better to be sure.)
- Upon scheduling your first consultation, we will also verify your Healthfirst coverage and will tell you what your copay and deductible are, if any.
Is Online Therapy Covered by Healthfirst Insurance?
Yes. Healthfirst covers online therapy, which is often referred to as telehealth therapy. Therapists, like ours, who accept Healthfirst are known as Healthfirst in-network therapists.
How much does therapy cost with Healthfirst?
Coverage for therapy varies widely from one Healthfirst plan to another. Most often there is some co-pay to be paid. Usually the deductible is waived for mental health therapy. Some Healthfirst plans do not waive the deductible.
If you have Healthfirst Medicaid Managaged Care, you most likely do not have a copay or deductible.
With a Healthfirst therapist, your therapy sessions will likely cost between $0 - $30 per session, after you meet your deductible. The $0 - $30 amount is the co-pay (the fixed amount that you owe at each therapy visit). You likely have a plan that waives the deductible for psychotherapy. If that's the case, your Healthfirst copay, if any, is your sole responsibility.
Does Manhattan Mental Health Counseling Accepts Healthfirst?
Yes. All the therapists within our practice are Healthfirst therapists. Our therapy practice is in-network with Healthfirst.
