Break Free from OCD, Find Peace

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by the presence of obsessions and compulsions. The repetitive and intrusive thoughts, feelings, urges, images or sensations (e.g. the obsessions) lead to anxiety, fear and distress

In turn, these unwanted internal experiences often lead to time-consuming, and painful ritualistic behaviors (e.g. the compulsions.)

Those who suffer from OCD usually go to great length to avoid or ignore their obsession. The compulsion is meant to decrease the anxiety and distress caused by the obsessions or to prevent a feared outcome from occurring. While temporary relief from intrusive thoughts is often felt after the compulsion is enacted, the relief is only short term. Over time, a vicious habitual cycle of obsessions alleviated by compulsions sets in that often interferes with daily life and general wellbeing.

Our OCD therapists can help you free yourself from the burdens of the OCD cycle and empower you to live a fulfilling and peaceful life.

Learn coping skills with OCD therapy

You will also learn acceptance skills that allow you to feel the physical symptoms related to OCD as they occur in your body without trying to change them or run from them.

Resilience and willingness to experience discomfort are key predictors of success in OCD therapy. You can weaken the grip OCD has over you as long as you keep at it. Relish small victory and expect progress to be gradual and non-linear. Overcoming OCD is within reach. Our OCD therapists can help you get there.

OCD Treatment Approaches

Therapy is the first line of treatment for OCD. There is strong evidence that talk therapy is highly effective for OCD. We take a holistic approach to OCD treatment, with the goals of rebalancing thought patterns, removing or severely diminishing anxiety, distress or fear triggered and disengaging from the rituals. We draw on the following therapeutic methods:

    Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

A form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), considered particularly effective for treating OCD. ERP involves gradual exposure to anxiety provoking situations while weakening and diminishing the compulsive behavior. Exposure leads to habituation, which decreases the intensity and frequency of the OCD-related anxiety over time. The pace of therapy is designed to enable you to tackle obsessions and compulsions (rituals) at a gradual, manageable pace.

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A type of therapy that helps you learn skills to replace negative, incorrect, or irrational thoughts, which commonly occur with OCD, with more accurate, positive, and healthy thoughts. You will learn to notice and rationally respond to the distorted OCD language.

    Mindfulness-based Therapy

A type of therapy focusing on paying attention to the present moment, accepting thoughts and emotions as they are, and allowing them to exist without judgment. Mindfulness practice will help lower resistance to your OCD symptoms through non-judgmental acceptance, which is necessary to stop engaging in the compulsive behavior.
